Raw Oysters Pose a Danger to Some
Posted on March 25, 2008 in the category
Knock, knock. Who’s there? Oyster. Oyster who? Oyster Be Aware. Okay, so I probably will not be making my Tonight Show debut anytime soon. I love oysters. I actually like any kind of seafood, but not everyone can enjoy seafood the way I do.
Raw oysters carry bacteria called Vibrio vulnificus that can have serious medical consequences if you have liver disease, diabetes or a weak immune system. Visit beoysteraware.com for information on this bacterium. Find out if you are at risk or someone you know could be at risk. While you are there, check out their great oyster recipes. Nothing sounds better than Chicago-Style Pizza made with Gulf Oysters.

Chicago style pizza, with gulf oysters. You bet that sounds good!
I would think that it would go good on top of a vegetarian pizza.
I bet it would melt in your mouth! Dave
Thanks for the information. If the oyster really has the medical consequences , it would be really much effective for the people suffering from such type of diseases.
I love oysters, but after reading this I think those days may be over! Thanks for the info, much appreciated…

discomforting mixed with correct at the same time yeah! Totally!
Thanks for the info-it only confirmed my suspicions. People should never eat raw meat of any kind.

I may be taking chances, but I live a little bit by the philosophy that ‘what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger’… but seriously, I’ve been eating raw oysters every once in a while for years and never had even a tummy ache, same goes for raw eggs, make shakes with them and never had a problem… knock on wood I guess
One day we should all turn vegetarian, I think that is the best option available now.
The risk reward with raw oysters isn’t worth it. Raw oysters don’t taste that good to me. Use lemon to help kill some of the bacteria, but not all.
