My Son’s 17th Birthday
Posted on March 21, 2008 in the category
My son’s 17th birthday is on the 25th. Tonight he is having a birthday party. There are 7 or 8 teenagers in my house that have been making noise nonstop for the past 6 hours. They are spending the night so it is hard to tell when they will settle down. What concerns me more is that many of them drive now and they have been coming and going all night. It is now almost midnight and I am about to inform my son that they are in for the night.
I am a light sleeper and I am sure I would hear anybody that tried to leave, but kids can be very resourceful when it comes to these things. They all seem to be having a good time. These same people have been coming over for his birthday for more than 10 years. It is interesting and amazing to see how they have changed through the years.
Digging Out

After nearly 24 hours of snow, we officially ended up with 20.5 inches of snow. Now we are dealing with the aftermath of that much snow. Where do you put it when you shovel it? Where is it all going to go when it melts? I took the day off of work, because I did not feel like trying to get there through the remnants of the storm.
The city will have most of the streets cleaned by this evening and it should be business as usual tomorrow. For our city, this was the largest snowfall in over 100 years. I am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things and I think some of this is due to the time change from standard time to daylight savings time. But tomorrow I am not going to have a choice. I have to go back to work and unfortunately, I have to get online and see what is going on there and clean up some loose ends sometime tonight.
Let It Snow

I live in an area that gets 10-12 inches of snow annually. We have gotten 12 inches in the last 24 hours. Today is my birthday and I thought it would be nice to go out to dinner, but I am not sure that is going to be an option. My husband is digging our cars out now, but they have not plowed our subdivision yet.
When they were forecasting the snow the weather forecasters didn’t even want to believe it. We have a blizzard warning and we haven’t had one those since 1996. We haven’t had 12 inches of snow in one snowfall since 1989. Everybody in the neighborhood is digging their cars out like they are actually going to be able to go somewhere. The freeways aren’t even drivable.
I guess for the time being I will stay put in my nice comfortable home, in front of my fire. It will have to do for now. One thing I enjoy about snow is all the cardinals it seems to bring to my backyard, but I don’t even see them today. I think the high winds are keeping them away.
Changing my Direction

I am going to take this blog back to where it should–expressing my thoughts and writing about recovery. In the past I have done paid blogging and don’t get me wrong, it was a way out of financial difficulties that I could not have handled without them. They also have one of the greatest communities around.
But due to circumstances beyond anybodies control (no PR), it is no longer profitable. I have decent traffic, but not traffic that puts me at the top. Now, I no longer have to worry about PR and Alexa rank. It is all going to be about my life and what I feel. I am still undecided about “do follow.” I like the traffic that it brings and I don’t mind giving people links that have something worthwhile to say, even if it is not on topic. On the other hand, I get tired of having to delete all the gambling, drug and porn shit. After all, this is a blog about recovery. Get a clue. Do you really thing I want your xanex promotion on here.
I have actually started working on an adsense business and have surprised myself by being able to make some money. I am hoping to have my first 4 figure income for the month of March. It is new to me and I am learning, but it is also very exciting to be building something that kind of works on its own and just needs a little bit of monitoring. I see good things for the future and I am very excited about the direction I see things going.
Need a Car?

It seems like I am always buying a car? Or maybe it just seems that way because they take so long to pay off. But the internet makes it easy to go car shopping. You may not be able to kick the tires, but you are able to compare car prices, makes and models with very little effort. If you are need of a new car or just want to see what is new on the market, visit carsblvd.com.
Homecoming

My son was selected to be part of the homecoming court. We have been laughing about it ever since it happened. He is attractive, but does not necessarily have striking looks. His personality is what gets him friends. He says he thinks he was nominated as a joke and we figured that would be as far as it would go. Then he cam home a few days later and said he had won. We all had a good time with it. My son takes pride in being a geek and I think he was stunned that somebody besides an athlete would win such a contest. He has a lot of great pictures and he and his girlfriend had a lot of fun at the dance.
