Music downloads, also known as file sharing has grown in popularity, especially in the past ten years. Not only are there music downloads. You can also download movies, pictures, computer programs, books and video games. You can download just about anything that can be put into a digital format.
There are a wide variety of downloadable music sites available and some of them offer their downloads for free. Free music downloads have been around for quite some time. Napster was one of the first websites to come to fame allowing free music downloads. That all changed five years ago when the Recording Industry Association of America got an injunction against Napster’s free downloads.
There are still websites that offer free music downloads. Because theses companies are not centralized, they can not be shut down. The liability for illegal music downloads has been put on the person who is doing the downloading. The other problem that exists with free music downloads is the amount of spyware that is downloaded along with the free music download.
Apple was the first company to come up with a viable alternative to the free music download. In 2003, Apple introduced iTunes, a music download service that charged $.99 per download. This began the emergence of music downloads membership sites. These music download membership sites are growing in popularity.
The internet has changed the way the world listens to and acquires music. The birth of the MP3 player has made music downloads more popular than ever. Music downloads can be found on the internet with very little effort.
